Leading Companies & Markets

The most common markets for artistic directors are within large and small theatre productions, orchestras, opera companies, schools and universities, and the film and television industry. You will hear of music directors for groups such as Orchestra Victoria, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet and leading theatre groups.

Environment & Culture

In a private or public school you are supervising children and adolescents. You follow the school routine and attend meetings and plan lessons during your day. In a theatre you are surrounded by actors, musicians and production crew, working odd hours to fit in late night and weekend rehearsals. The Artistic Director of an orchestra works in large auditoriums and practice studios with many musicians.
