This is an ideal career for an intuitive thinker. Journalists write and edit news reports, commentaries and feature articles for newspapers, magazines and radio or television stations. As a journalist you tend to specialise in either broadcast journalism on television and radio, or print journalism for newspapers and magazines, though many journalists have done both.

Pros
  • Interesting news every day; the public listens to what you have to say
  • Meet important, powerful people
  • Flexibility of career direction
Cons
  • Research is often boring
  • Pressure of deadlines takes it’s toll
  • Entry-level employment is hard to find
The Bottom Line

Journalism can be glamorous at times, but more likely not. Interesting work, tertiary qualification is not difficult, average pay. The cut and thrust of deadlines is not for everyone. Unless you burn out, it’s a blast!
