This is an ideal career for creative thinkers. A draftsperson is a skilled technician who draws plans of buildings, machines and products using accurate pictures to capture a design idea. Your drawings are like modern blueprints, used as guides for builders and manufacturers.

Leading Companies & markets

As a draftsperson, you can find employment in a range of areas. Popular markets include private firms, be they architecturally, electronically, or mechanically based; large construction and manufacturing companies; particular government departments; and mining companies. Basically, any area that requires planning or drafting, from car construction to bridge building, a draftsperson can find employment.

Environment & Culture

As a draftsperson, you will spend most of your time in an office in front of a drafting table. This table can be adjusted to sit at an angle, and will be well lit. You may use computer aided design and drafting frequently, or freehand technical drawing. You will make use of a variety of instruments, including professional pencils ranging in width and shade, compasses, protractors, drafting paper, and French curves. After enough experience, you will memorise certain formulas in reference to manual sketches.
