This is an ideal career for a logical thinker. As an electrotechnology assembler, you use your knowledge of electrical wiring to make, fit or repair electrical machines, instruments, appliances or tools. You may also service electronic equipment such as radio communication equipment, two-way radios, CB radios, radio broadcast and studio equipment, video arcade machines, fire and security alarm systems, and home entertainment equipment.

Typical accountabilities and responsibilities

1st Year
Ensure clean working environment both at the beginning and end of the day. Clean parts, removing grease and dirt from them.
2nd Year
 
As above and basic tool repair, tool disassemble and reassemble.
3rd Year
 
All above as well as more advanced tool inspections and repairs
4th Year
All above and repair and maintenance of all forms of equipment learnt along the way. Assist customers with queries on their tool repair or purchase.
 
Qualified
All of the above. Some business management skills are required when running your own business. Can become sales representative.

Career Path Options and Employment opportunities

Once qualified as an electrotechnology assembler you can specialise as an armature winder, winding or rewinding coils on electrical motors or generators. You may also choose to be an electrical instrument fitter, who will test, repair and maintain equipment that is used within industry. Other career opportunities exist within the manufacturing, mining, minerals, energy supply, water supply, and storage and transport industries. Depending on the size of the company you may work for, promotion to supervisory, technician, engineering and management positions is possible with experience and further training. Opportunities exist for those who wish to become a sales representative for a wholesale or manufacturing company. Career opportunities within this field are directly linked to the economy, especially within the building trades, or to consumer spending on electrical goods.

With further experience and business training, you can establish your own business. Depending on the size of the business, you can expect it to take a considerable amount of capital to set up, as well as a commitment to hard work, and the determination to succeed.
