Career path options
As an environmental health officer, you have the opportunity to further your career by specialising within the field. You may choose to focus on areas such as waste management, environmental protection, health education, noise control, disease vector control, and air, food, and water quality.
You may decide to change the direction of your career, and enter work in consulting, evaluation, management, or health promotion. As many Environmental Health Officers work in teams, you may climb the ladder and become team leader. Higher positions come with added responsibilities, and so you may be required to create policies or train new environmental health officers. If you progress to a senior position with a local government employer, you may be required to act as the contact member for government departments.
