Qualifications & Leading Universities
A university degree is preferred but not essential. Because a strong sense of people, business, management and situations is mandatory, to help gain this knowledge, together with a formal qualification, you may consider studying for an undergraduate degree, either a Bachelor of Business or a Bachelor of Commerce, generally a three year, full-time course.
You will need an entry score of 85+ to be admitted to one of the more sought-after universities. These include University of Melbourne, ANU, Monash University, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Technology, Sydney, and the University of Western Australia.
Other possibilities you may want to consider include the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in administrative management; University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Business Administration; Macquarie University with Bachelor of Business Administration; Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Management); or University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
If you do not have a university degree in some positionsa recognised qualification in secretarial or administrative skills will suffice . You need to be IT proficient to be considered for an executive assistant role. In most of these positions, possessing shorthand and audio typing skills is a major advantage, as is basic knowledge or fluency in other languages.
The entry criteria for tertiary institiutions differs from year to year. The above comments are a guide only. To gain specific entry criteria either contact the relevant university or use Hobson's The Good University Guide.
