This is an ideal career for creative thinkers. A film and television producer plans and manages both the technical and artistic streams of the film or TV production process. You supervise the budget, recruitment of staff, script development and coordination of sets, locations and equipment. In many ways a producer is like the Managing Director of a company.

Environment & Culture of the workplace

Having experience on set will give you vital knowledge on how to interact and work with people on a production. Working with a good team of people can be a very enjoyable experience. Emotion, conflicting ideas, differing treatments all combine to deliver tense situations and as producer it is your task to calm the waters, settle the individuals whilst retaining their self respect, dignity and, for some, their ego.

Your dedicated work ethic, interpersonal skills and sensitivity are essential. Working on a production, whether it is a feature film or television commercial is a great opportunity to make contacts and create networks. It’s an open environment and hard working individuals are quickly noticed. People will usually hire you again if you are a hard worker, easy to work with and can take constructive comment.
