Career Path & Employment opportunities

Your career as a fire fighter will begin as a recruit. Form here you are assigned to a station for a further 3 years, whereby you undertake station duties while doing your continuation studies. You will also respond to fire and emergency calls. Throughout Victoria there are two major employers of fire fighters, the MFESB and the CFA. You can apply at any time throughout the year, although competition for these positions is extremely high as places are limited. There are opportunities to become a fire prevention officer or bush fire prevention officer either through government agencies, large commercial and industrial companies or rural areas.

Promotions within the MFESB and CFA are based on the merits of fully qualified individuals.
