Leading Companies & Markets
As a landscape architect, you can find employment in large architectural practices or firms. Those who enjoy a good reputation include Taylor & Cullity Lethlean, Hassell and Tract Consultants.
Local or state government agencies, working for other landscape architects, engineers, builders, land developers, or town planners are also viable options for employment. Large developers or mining companies often employ their own landscape architect. If you have years of experience and the necessary business skills, then you may choose to establish your own consulting practice.
Competition for projects and new positions is strong.
Environment & Culture
As a landscape architect, you work both indoors and outdoors on site. Indoors you will invariably be drawing the project seated at an adjustable drafting table. You may use CAD applications or freehand technical drawing for your plans. The office will be well lit, with little noise and houses other professional workers.
You will usually work a standard full time hour week, although if you consult you may work longer hours to establish your practice. Outdoors, you work in a range of environments, from parks and residential estates, to holiday resorts and shopping centres.
