This is an ideal career for logical thinkers. Logistics is the efficient flow and storage of goods and services from the manufacturer to the consumer. Logistics is a part of the supply chain process which plans, implements and controls the movement of goods. You co-ordinate transportation, shipping and receiving, as well as storage and despatch and import/export operations.

Leading Companies & Markets

Working in logistics, you may find employment with various employers. Commonly, all large business organisations require a logistics team and manager, such as manufacturing firms, wholesale distributors, service providers, transport organisations and retail chains as an essential part of their business success.

Advancements in technology like the Internet have made it possible for companies to offer their goods and services on a global level. Along with the rise in customer demand and expectations of prompt delivery, it is becoming increasingly important for a successful online company to have an efficient logistics department.

Environment & Culture

Logistics involves diverse functions from ordering, transporting, receiving, storing, distributing merchandise within Australia or overseas across diverse industries such as  from mining to wine and beer to fashion.

Depending on your role within logistics, you may spend a considerable amount of your time in the warehouse, supervising staff and managing logistics. The rest of the time may be spent in an office, writing plans, determining costs, and liaising with other departments, suppliers and customers.

A full time week is standard, although your work hours may increase depending on the volume of goods that need to be handled. The environment can be noisy and hectic, and you could easily find yourself exhausted at the end of a work day.
