Career Path Options and Employment opportunities

The variety of tasks for plumbers will naturally lead some to specialise in particular areas such as roof plumbing, heating and cooling, mechanical services, drainage, or gas fitting. Many plumbers are self-employed, or work for large plumbing firms that work for building companies either in residential or commercial construction. Demand for plumbers will depend on the volume of activity through the building industry, making this a highly competitive field.

With further training and experience you can also enter the field of building supervisor, technical sales representative, plumbing inspector, or estimator.
