Environment & Culture
Child, family, and school social workers typically work in individual and family services agencies, schools, or State or local governments. Medical and public health social workers may work for hospitals, nursing and personal care facilities, individual and family services agencies, or local governments. Social workers employed in the community sector work in local community centres and agencies. In all these environments, full-time social workers usually work a standard 40-hour week, but many opportunities exist for part-time, short-term and flexible working options. Social workers can work from an office, residential facility or from home and often travel locally to visit clients, meet with service providers, or attend meetings. Social work has a strong, supportive professional culture, with opportunities to meet with colleagues for conferences, celebrations and support.
