This is an ideal career for analytical and logical thinkers. Veterinarians give clinical advice and diagnose illness or injuries in all types of animals. You provide treatment and surgery if necessary.
You also give advice on ways to prevent the occurrence or spread of disease and provide information about ways to help keep animals healthy and productive.

Environment & Culture of the workplace

The working environment is variable. Small animal practices are usually all indoors but working with larger animals will mean you work both indoors and outdoors. You will work long and irregular hours to treat sick or injured animals and when on call, you may work day, night, weekends or over holiday periods. There are physical risks such as being scratched or bitten and a small risk of transmission of disease from animal to human.
